The Faculty of Political Sciences has developed a series of postgraduate-level courses, aimed towards the development and specialization of the professional skills needed for high-responsibility management of complex crises. The Master in Peacekeeping & Security Studies represents the highest level of study in this field.
Begun in the 2001-2002 academic year, the Master offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary preparation to those seeking experience in the diverse professional opportunities within the fields of Peace and Security. This is done through a global perspective on peace; including humanitarian assistance, the restoration and sustainment of the domestic rule of law, the construction and reconstruction of institutions and the development of dialogue and solidarity.
The formative track, developed in collaboration with the Italian Army, and enriched with the know-how of other prestigious partners, is aimed at both civilian and military audiences. The track is based on an integrated approach, adequate for the management of complex emergencies, and aimed towards an understanding that would favour the best coordination and synergy among the diverse actors on the field.
During the Master both military and civilian participants achieve a certificate of Special Advisor on the implementation of International Humanitarian Law in the armed conflicts and in the Crisis Response Operations, ex art. 6, Protocol I, 1977, issued by the Italian Red Cross.
The 'Memorandum of Cooperation' signed with the NATO Defense College consolidates ongoing cooperation that has for its object the dissemination of studies and research in matters relating to the processes of intervention, stabilization, reconstruction and democratization in crisis areas. The 'Memorandum of Cooperation' provides lectures at the College for participants in the Master.
Students are also offered insurance coverage for possible internships in public and private national organizations and agencies, in regional or international organizations, and in non-governmental organizations, with the possibility of later employment.
The Master qualifies professionals for work in regional and international organizations (such as the UN and associated agencies, the EU, NATO, AU, OAS, OSCE, etc.), military forces, public order forces, non-governmental organizations, public administration, news press and public information agencies and organizations.
The Master in Peacekeeping and Security Studies collaborates with many important regional, national, international, and non-governmental organizations, as well as academic, military, and civilian experts. The reports of those who have worked in some of the most challenging areas of the planet enrich an academic course that could be considered also an all-involving life experience.
