BOOKS

Attenders must buy the course book (which is available at the Libreria Università “Silvio D’Amico” across the street from the Faculty). We only make you buy one book per year. It will cost you less than two nights at the disco! Photocopies are not permitted in the lesson.

STUDY TIPS FOR NON-ATTENDERS (B1/A2)

If you cannot come to lesson at all, don’t buy the course books that are designed for language classes and group work (above).

Instead, you should buy a self-study course which prepares for the Cambridge PET exam, which is similar to our B1 exam.

  1. An example is Ready for PET (with answer key)

  2. Macmillan

  3. by Nick Kenny & Anne Kelly

  4. (The language lab has self-study tests for A2 and B1 exams.)

STUDY TIPS FOR NON-ATTENDERS (B2)

Any preparation tests for Cambridge “First Certificate” (with a key), which is a similar level to the B2 exam, are helpful. If you are a TPT student you will also have to do a short translation (Italian-English). Download sample on exams page or contact Peter Douglas for more information. The above course book would do the job fine. But you could also buy a self-study course which prepares for the Cambridge FC exam. Practice B2 listening exams are available in the Language Lab.

  1. An example is Practice Tests for Cambridge First Certificate English Book 1 (with answer key and cassette/CD), Cambridge University Press

STUDY TIPS FOR NON-ATTENDERS (C1)

Students should work with the New English File Advanced (see above for publication details). LTI students will also have to do a translation (Italian-English). Download sample on exams page or contact Peter Douglas for more information.

Any preparation for Cambridge ‘Advanced’ (with key), which is the equivalent level of our exam, is also useful. The best book for this purpose is the Total English Advanced Student’s book (with DVD) to be used with the Total English Advanced Workbook (with ‘catch-up’ CD-ROM).
