The Department of Geological Sciences of Roma Tre University and the S.T.A.T Department of Molise University founded the Center for Evolutionary Ecology, whose venue is the Laboratory of Vertebrate Palaeontology of Roma Tre University. Aims and scope of this newborn center are the improvement of our knowledge of Evolutionary Ecology, Macroecology and Palaeobiology.
The "Roma Tre" Vertebrate Palaeontology Laboratory is involved in the following fields of research: 1) studies on systematics, evolution, biochcronology and palaeobiogeography of Cenozoic micromammals (insectivores, bats, rodents, lagomorphs) of the Mediterranean area; 2) studies on Plio-Pleistocene palaeoclimatology by means of micromammal assemblages analyses; 3) studies on crocodile systematics, evolution and palaeobiogeography; 4) studies on Evolutionary Theory. Both classical
qualitative and modern quantitative (PCA, CDA, Fourier contour analysis)
approaches are applied to the studies. Research work is carried out with
modern techniques as geometric morphometrics applied on fossil groups. Many
collaborations are active with Italian, European and extra-European
Research Institutions, including the Ph.D. Co-tutorial. Teaching
activity is performed in all three University levels: Laurea in Scienze
Geologiche (= Bachelor in Geological Sciences), Laurea Magistrale in
Geologia del Territorio e delle Risorse (= Master in Field and Resources
Geology) and Dottorato di Ricerca in Geodinamica (= Ph.D. in Geodynamics,
curriculum in Cenozoic Continental Palaeozoology). Address: Dipartimento di Scienze Geologiche Università degli Studi "Roma Tre" Largo S.
