Lexicography and onomatology
International study days
 February 16th and 17th 2006

The meeting aims to focus on the main aspects of the relationship between onomatology and lexicography, stressing the interest of linguists, language historians, lexicologists, dialectologists, specialised languages scholars and onomatologists on the relationship between proper names and dictionaries at first and, in a general perspective, on proper names and language as a whole

Topics:

Proper names in dictionaries (Lexicographic entries in synchrony and diachrony. Deonyms in dialectal, slang and specialised dictionaries. Proper names in the entry: attestations, backdatings, phraseology etc.).

Deonomastics (Eponyms and lexicalization processes: semantic extension and derivation. Deonyms of literary source. Lexicalization of industrial brands. The status of ethnonyms and glottonyms).

Deonomatics over dictionaries (From proper names to common names in transmitted and spoken language)

The Giornate, organized by prof. Paolo D'Achille, Department of Italian Studies of Roma Tre University, and dr. Enzo Caffarelli, Editor of Rivista Italiana di Onomastica, will last a day and a half, during which 21 papers by Italian and foreign scholars will be presented.

Proceedings will be published by the end of the year 2006.
