I was born on April 20th ,
1952, in Padua.
In 1976 I graduated in Philosophy with a thesis in
Psycholinguistics about "A research on new topics for Linguistic Education. The
Speakers Judgments: Acceptability" (with Domenico Parisi).
Since 1977 I have worked first at the Linguistic
Institute, then at the Department of Education of Roma Tre University. Since 2001 I have
been an Associate Professor in General Psychology and in Psychology of Communication, at
the Faculty of Education of Roma Tre.
I have worked in national Researches on "Multimodality
of Communication" and on "The language of emotions", both
coordinated by P.E.Ricci Bitti, and in researches on the construction of Embodied Agents:
CNR Project "COMMEDIA", EU MagiCster Project, EU ISLE Project.
I am among the founders of the International Society for
Gesture Studies, a Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal "Gesture" and of
the Digital Semiotic Encyclopedia (www.semioticon.com). |
I have worked on topics in psychology,
linguistics, and cognitive science; specifically:
- Linguistic Education, Teaching Italian as a first language (language
comprehension and production, metalinguistic reflection in primary, grammar and high
school);
- Pragmatics and Multimodal communication (Speech acts, interjections,
gestures, gaze, facial expression, music, multimodality);
- Cognitive analysis of communicative phenomena (communication,
non-communication, secrets, deception, irony, rhetorical figures, persuasion, advertising,
political discourse);
- Cognitive analysis of emotions (shame, guilt, humiliation, compassion,
enthusiasm, communication and non-communication of emotion);
- Computer simulation of multimodality (Embodied Agents, Talking Faces).
