Roberto CAMUSSI was born in Salerno, Italy, the 25th of January, 1967

He graduated with full marks (cum laude) in 1991 in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of RomeLa Sapienza”. In 1995 he completed the PhD in “Theoretical and Applied Mechanics”, at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome. During 1995-2002 he was Researcher  at the University “Roma Tre” of Rome, Faculty of Engineering. During 2002-2011 he was Associate Professor of Fluid Dynamic and since 2011 he is Full Professor of Fluid Dynamic at the University “Roma Tre”.

During 1994-1995 he was Visiting Scientist at the Ecole Normale Superieure of Lyon (Laboratory Physique  Recherche). Since 1994 he participated, presenting papers, to several International and National conferences also as a chairman of specific Sessions.

He organized  and co-organized workshops and symposia including the “13th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference”, Roma (Italy), May 2006 (more than 450 delegates), the “XVII Convegno Nazionale A.I.VE.LA.”, Roma, December 2010, the international school “Short Course on Aeroacoustics”, Roma, May 2007, the international advanced course “Noise Sources in Turbulent Shear Flows” at CISM, Udine (IT), April  2011. He is also member of the local organizing committee of the “9th EuroMech Fluid Mechanics Conference”, Rome, Sept. 2012 and of the “10th International Conference on Flow-Induced Vibration”, Dublin, July 2012.

He was invited to give lectures in national and international Universities and Research Centers including a short course offered at the international summer school “Turbulence: measurements and signals”, at the Institut d’Etudes Scientifique of Cargese (FR) (May 2002) and the course “Boundary Layer Noise” given at CISM (Udine, April 2011).

He is Referee of international journals (including Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, Experiments in Fluids, Journal of Turbulence, European Physical Journal, Applied Scientific Research, Computers and Fluids, Europhysics Letters). He is also Referee of:
The US National Science Foundation
The EPSRC – UK Engineering and Physical Science Research
The IRCSET, Irish Research Council for Science Engineering and Technology
The Royal Society (e-GAP system)

Presently he is a member of the Aeroacoustic Specialists Commitee of the CEAS  (Council of European Aerospace Society). He is a member of the Directive Board of the Italian Association of Laser Velocimetry and non Invasive Diagnostics (AIVELA). He is part of the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal “The Open Acoustic Journal” (ISSN: 1874-8376). He is in charge of the experimental laboratory of Thermo-fluid dynamics and Aerodynamics of the University Roma Tre and he is member of the Directive Board managing the DIMI-ENEA low speed wind tunnel.

He collaborates with many Italian and foreign Universities and research centres (including Trinity College of Dublin, Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, LEA Poitiers, University of Leicester,  University of Bath, University of New South Wales, Polish Academy of Sciences, AIRBUS, BOEING). He was principal investigator of several contracts established with private and public bodies (including PRIN and FESR national grants) and of the EU funded projects ENABLE under the 5th FP,  PROBAND and AEROTRANET  under the 6th FP, ORINOCO under the 7th FP.

He is in charge of courses at the Engineering Faculty of the University “Roma Tre” since 1995. He presently teaches courses of Fluid-Dynamics (for the Mechanical Engineering degree program) and the courses of Aerodynamics and of Propulsion, for the Aeronautical Engineering degree program. He also gives short courses and seminars under the Doctoral School of Mechanical Engineering at the University Roma Tre within the field of aeroacoustics. He was advisor and co-advisor of several PhD students, and of several first and second level degree students. He was member of committees for: final Doctoral defenses (including international Committees), competitions for PhD positions, competitions for Researcher positions.

The main scientific interest is towards Experimental Aerodynamics, including: Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustics of round Jets; Compressible and incompressible attached and separated boundary layers; Jets in cross-flow; Statistics and modelling of homogeneous and isotropic turbulence; Coherent structures in turbulent shear flows; Advanced signal processing techniques; Cavity flows; Dynamics of propeller wakes;  Convective turbulence; Turbulent combustion in premixed flames; Transitional convection in closed domains.

Applied research studies included: Aerodynamics of helicopter rotor blades; Wind tunnel design and qualification; Blockage problems in Wind Tunnels; Application of hot wire methodologies (measurements within Icing Wind Tunnels and in compressible flows); Design of wind turbines; Design of solar collectors;  Application of commercial numerical codes for industrial problems (codes Fluent, Cd Star).

He authored and co-authored more than 120 publications.
