Breve scheda bio-bibliografica

John McCourt (Phd National University, Ireland, 1996), è ricercatore di letteratura inglese all'Università Roma tre. E' stato, nel 2006, Visiting Professor all'Università di Pennsylvania a Philadelphia.
E' autore di The Years of Bloom: Joyce in Trieste 1904-1920 (Dublin, Lilliput press e Madison, University of Wisconsin press 2000). James Joyce, Gli Anni di Bloom è stato pubblicato nel 2004 da Mondadori ed ha vinto il premio Comisso. E' anche autore di James Joyce, A Passionate Exile (London: Orion books e New York: St. Martins Press) ed ha curato un volume della James Joyce Quarterly nel 2001. Ha scritto una quarantina di articoli su Joyce, Anthony Trollope, sul “World Literature” e sulla letteratura irlandese contemporanea (Healy, MacLaverty, Toibin). Ha curato, nel 2007, un volume intitolato Postcards from Trieste: Risky readings of Joyce (Miami: University of Florida press), con Sebastian Knowles e Geert Lernout. Un'altra volume, James Joyce in Context, uscirà con Cambridge University press nel 2008 e sarà seguito da una monografia sul rapporto tra Joyce e l'Irlanda Cattolica sempre con Cambridge.
John McCourt è co-fondatore e director della Trieste Joyce School dell'Università di Trieste ed è stato co-organizzatore dell'International James Joyce symposium che si è svolto a Trieste nel 2002.
E' stato eletto Trustee dell'International James Joyce Foundation nel 2002, ed è "advisory editor" del James Joyce Quarterly e del James Joyce Studies Annual. E' membro del editorial board di Joyce Studies in Italy (Università Roma, 3) e segretario del Italian James Joyce Foundation. In Ottobre 2007, ha ricevuto il premio internazionale di critica letteraria "le cattedrali letterarie europee" al Campidoglio, Roma (con Roberto Benigni, Umberto Eco, Claudio Magris, e Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler).

In 2007, he co-edited a volume entitled Postcards from Trieste: Risky Readings of Joyce (Miami: University of Florida Press), with Sebastian Knowles and Geert Lernout. Another volume, James Joyce in Context, will be published by Cambridge University Press in January 2008 and will be followed by a monograph on Joyce and Catholic Ireland (Cambridge) and another book of Anthony Trollope’s Irish writings.
John McCourt is co-founder and director of the Trieste Joyce School at the University of Trieste and was co-organizer of the International Joyce symposium held in Trieste in 2002.
He served as elected Trustee of the International James Joyce Foundation from 2002 to 2008 and also serves as advisory editor of the James Joyce Quarterly and the James Joyce Studies Annual. He is a member of the editorial board of Joyce Studies in Italy (Università Roma, 3) and is secretary of the Italian James Joyce Foundation. In October 2007, he was awarded the international literary criticism prize "le cattedrali letterarie europee" at the Campidoglio, Rome (with Roberto Benigni, Umberto Eco, Claudio Magris, e Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler).

Linee generali di ricerca

John McCourt continua a svolgere attività di ricerca su James Joyce, e sta scrivendo libri su Joyce e la chiesa Cattolica Irlandese e sul “reception” di Joyce in Irlanda. E’ molto coinvolto nella promozione di studi joyceani all’Università Roma Tre ed è stato tra gli organizzatori del primo James Joyce Graduate conference che si è tenuta a Roma in febbraio 2007.
Sta anche scrivendo sui scritti irlandesi di Anthony Trollope, e sulla letteratura irlandese contemporanea. Inoltre partecipa al programma di ricerca dipartimentale “Letterature e film” coordinato da Masolino D'Amico.

Research interests

John McCourt continues to work on James Joyce and is working on books on Joyce and Irish Catholicism and on Joyce reception in Ireland. He is deeply involved in promoting Joyce Studies at the Università Roma Tre with Professor Franca Ruggieri and was among the organizers of the First Italian James Joyce Graduate conference held in Rome in February 2007.
He is also doing research into Anthony Trollope’s Irish writings. An abiding research interest in the contemporary Irish novel. He is currently taking part in the departmental research programme on literature and film which is co-ordinated by Masolino D’Amico.
