Claudio Faccenna

CAREER:
Full Professor since 2011. Associate Professor of Structural Geology since 2001.
Degree Diploma in Geologiocal Sciences: University of Rome La Sapienza, 1988
PhD in Earth Science, University of Rome La Sapienza, 1993
Post-doc: Universitè Rennes I e Paris VI
Visiting scolarship: Harvard University (Cambridge, Ma)

MAIN INTERESTS:
Research lines (Tectonics, Geodynamics, Structural Geology):
  • Subduction process: tectonics, kinematics, dynamics;
  • Mountain building: tectonics, uplift, erosion, exhumation and evolution of Mediterranean-type mountain belt;
  • Relationships between mantle convection process, surface deformation, dynamic topography;
  • Tectonics, volcanism and fluid circulation;
  • Study regions: Mediterranean, Antartic, Andes, Middle East, Ethiopia.


LABORATORY:
He is responsible of Laboratory of Experimental Tectonics (LET)


RESEARCH:
He is involved in several European Initiative such as TopoEurope. He coordinate the ITN Marie Curie TOPOMOD project He coordinated several italian projects.
He is responsible of national and international research projects and is Author of numerous scientific papers; he has been invitated to give talks and short courses in different european and US universities. He is member of the Academia Europaea, chief editor of Tectonics and in the editorial board of Lithosphere and Geodinamica Acta. He was Secretary of Tectonics Session of the EGS and he is regularly chairing session in the annual meeting and he served to organize several scientific meetings. He received Stephan Muller medal from EGU and the prix Vuquesnel from the Societé Geologicque de France.


TEACHING ACTIVITIES:
He teach undergraduate courses both for laurea magistrale and specialistica at the Rome TRE Corso di Laurea in Scienze Geologiche, he is coordinator of the Earth Science PhD school of Roma TRE. He served as tutor or co-tutor of several PhD and Tesi di Laurea, holding short courses and lessons for national and international PhD school.
